Although the West African monsoon season was, overall, near normal, rainfall was patchy. The irregularity of the rainfall during the crucial July–August–September season proved difficult to predict, highlighting the significant challenges we continue to face for this by: project, the Hydrology of the Lake Victoria Basin (HyVIC) project, and the second West African Monsoon Model Evaluation (WAMME2). A.6 After the GEWEX SSG meeting, and with the oral comments received, David Karoly will send the updated white paper on extremes to GEWEX to distribute to the SSG and Panel co-chairs for review. The VACS meeting followed a 3-day workshop on plans for an international research project and field experiment focusing on the West African monsoon. 80 people attended this meeting including 44 representatives from 9 West African countries. The project is named AMMA (African Monsoon Multidisciplinary Analysis) and will be discussed in more. (VACS) Panel to a point where a West African monsoon experiment will be major activity for the panel in the coming years. Working with the French community in-terested in the West African monsoon, an international research project and field campaign known as AMMA (African Monsoon Multidisciplinary Analysis) is being developed.

BALTEX Science Plan for Phase 2 () BALTEX Phase 2 Science Framework and Implementation Strategy; BALTEX Phase 2 Revised. The FAA experiment shows a much weaker and more westward tilted trough at hPa near West Africa than CTL2. The precipitation region is shifted away from the African coast and shows two distinct strong maxima near the trough axis and at its southeasterly flank, both with . 1. Introduction. GHYRAF (Gravity and Hydrology in Africa) is a multidisciplinary project that aims to better understand the water cycle in West Africa from a combination of geodetic (GPS), gravity (surface and satellite-derived), hydrogeophysics (Magnetic Resonance Sounding and resistivity methods) and hydrology experiments. In east Africa, again as in west Africa, trade brought cultural as well as political changes. Like their counterparts in west Africa, the ruling elites and the wealthy mer-chants of east Africa converted to the Islamic faith. They did not necessarily give up their religious and cultural traditions but, rather, continued to observe them for pur-.

Under this plan, in the first phase, a single currency called 'ECO' was to be launched by Member States of the West African Monetary Zone (WAMZ) in January This, was however, launched in. A Technical Report to the Water Research Commission, South Africa, on a Project entitled The Limits of Predictability of the South African Seasonal Climate (WRC Report No /1/15). A study by Berry () reports on a field experiment in Gurgaon, India in The experiment compared the outcomes of various financial and non-financial rewards for meeting performance goals on a reading exam. One treatment offered a financial reward to parents if their child reached a specific performance goal on a reading test.
